Jerry Skinner is an aviation attorney with unparalleled experience representing families of victims of international commercial air crash disasters and general aviation accidents and helicopter crashes. He is one of only two American lawyers ever to appear before the Egyptian Court of Cassation. Jerry is most proud of his ongoing work for a charity that he founded in 1998 for disabled children. The Romanian Handicapped Ministry is a non-profit Christian ministry that focuses on assisting young people with serious disabilities in Romania. Due to his unique aviation expertise and experience he is often a part of the steering committee on major airplane crash disasters. His representative cases include:
In 2004, Jerry acted as a member of the negotiating committee that reached a historic $2.7 billion dollar settlement with the State of Libya on behalf of the 270 victims’ families in the litigation arising out of the Pan Am Flight 103 bombing.
In 2006, Jerry worked to create an alternative dispute resolution process for the families of the Egyptian citizens who were victims of the October 1999 mid-Atlantic crash of Egypt Air flight 990. Jerry presented cases before a former Egyptian United Nations diplomat appointed as special master, appearing in the highest court in Egypt, the Court of Cassation.
In addition to representing families of the MH17 crash victims against Malaysian Airlines for damages under the Montreal Convention, Jerry Skinner is leading the litigation filed in the European Court of Human Rights, (“ECHR”) in Strasbourg, France. The claim alleges that the Russian Federation fired a Buk-M1 anti-aircraft missile from within the Ukraine and shot down a commercial airliner, a Boeing 777 operating as Malaysian Airlines Systems flight 17, killing all 298 non-combatant passengers and crew on board. This act of war violated the European Human Rights Convention, of which Russia is a signatory, in denying the passengers and crew the right to life and the freedom from torture. This action is entitled, Sharlene Ayley and others v. the Russian Federation, Case No. 25714/16. For more information on this case, click here.
Jerry is of counsel at Friedman | Rubin, with special status as agent and representative of the firm.
